Monster Hunter Freedom 2 came out internationally for PSP (February 2007 for Japan, August 2007 for North America, September 2007 for Europe). The four new weapon types introduced were long sword, gunlance, hunting horn, and bow. Japan got Monster Hunter 2 for PS2 on February 2006 introducing more weapons and new elder dragons. Cantaperme played MHF1 recently so you can check out his videos to see for yourself. Instant charges, weird hitboxes, and stupid spots for monsters to sleep in where you couldn't reach them. The 1st generation does not hold up well over time.

Sword and Shield was the best weapon type because most monsters were weak to dragon and SnS had a really strong dragon weapon. Great Sword didn't even have charge attacks in the 1st generation. Monster Hunter Freedom was based on Monster Hunter G but was not a direct port.ġst generation had Great Sword, Sword and Shield, Dual Blades as a special subsection of Sword and Shield, Hammer, Lance, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun. The flagship was still Rathalos but Yian Garuga was introduced in this game.

Monster Hunter Freedom was the first of the freedom series (available on Playstation Portable) which came out December 2005 in Japan and May 2006 in Europe + North America (though Europe got in a few weeks before North America did). Monster Hunter G was also the first monster hunter with G rank. The flagship monster was Azure Rathalos which marked the introduction of subspecies. It was released on January 2005 for PS2 and then later on the Wii on April 2009 to test the Wii's capabilities for what would be Monster Hunter Tri. The flagship monster was the Rathalos and the final boss was Fatalis.Įdit: Monster Hunter G was a Japan exclusive title that was the precursor to Monster Hunter Freedom. Monster Hunter 1 came out March 2004 in Japan, September 2004 in North America, and May 2005 in Europe for Playstation 2. (Edit: Missed a few things which I updated, let me know if I missed anything else)

World is going to be a lot of people's 1st monster hunter so I wanted to make this so new hunters can see how monster hunter has changed over the years.
